5 Secrets To Effective Trade Show Display Designs

how to stand out in a crowdTis the season for displaying (Falalalala.....lala la la). Okay I couldn't resist, but it is.  Tens of thousands of companies across our great nation, from Philadelphia to New York, and from Chicago to Los Angeles are gearing up for another year of hopefully successful trade shows. The big question is: How will your company stand out among the many? Here are 5 secrets to effective trade show display designs that will get you noticed.

1.Goals, Goals, Goals
Before you can set out to have an effective trade show display designed, you must have goals for the display. Are you looking for leads? Brand awareness? New product launch? Do you want to draw people in, or just have them stop by for a quick brochure? A good designer will ask you these questions prior to launching Photoshop.

2.The 6 Second Rule
Count to 6............!  That was essentially the amount of time your trade show display design has to get someones attention. To ensure that your display stands out in a crowd, think about billboards or car wraps that get your attention. Consider your favorite ad in a magazine. You only see them for a matter of seconds, but somehow you remember the message.

3.Read You Like a Book
People will read your trade show graphics just like they read a newspaper; from the top left working towards the bottom right. Your display design elements should be setup the same way. Start with your main point on the top left hand side, followed by your sub categories (or main points), finally your ending which is usually what you would like the attendee to remember about you.

4.Less Is More
Yes, and I can't emphasize it enough, your booth display design must not read like a brochure with pages of information. Remember the six second rule!  In fact, I would highly recommend that your trade show display not be designed by a pure brochure designer.  Hire a designer who works on large signs or vehicle wraps.  They have a fantastic understanding of less is more.

5.Pose a question
I find that the most effective trade show displays ask a thought provoking question. The question should evoke an emotion, good or bad, to get the attendee thinking. A great question will provoke the attendee to stop over and chat, or your staff will pick up on their "thinking" body language and start the conversation.  Either way, it's a win-win!

Incorporate these 5 display design secrets into your recipe for trade show success and the leads, exposure, and product awareness will taste great! As always your comments or questions are more than welcome.

They may not be secrets as much as they are words to live by!

I perform magic at a lot of trade shows in the Midwest, and must say that many companies don't know how to properly present their image inside of a booth. Your tips are a nice primer for any company designing a booth.

You only have a few moments to capture a business persons attention. That's why entertainment works so well. A good magician stop traffic and actually pulls them inside the booth (or as close as possible) with his entertainment. Then the salespeople can take over.

That's certainly another way to draw attention to a well designed display. Thanks for taking the time to check in.
